Starting a school?

Do you have a vision for an alternative school?

This is an opportunity to hear stories about how others started their schools and ask questions about what is ahead for you in the creation of your dream… it is designed to help you feel less overwhelmed by the process. You will receive a step-by-step process and community connections who will support you.

Saturday 1.30 – 2.30

Ways to build community

How do schools build community… both children, adults, governing members, investors and donors?

We will workshop strategies in:

  • social media
  • program development
  • event development
  • public speaking and media
  • prospectus development
  • crowd funding, and
  • donations channels.

Saturday 2.30 – 4.00

Problems in our alternative sector?

Can you see issues within our alternative and creative education sector?

This open and democratic discussion is designed for us to hear from each other the challenges and obstacles we experience in our sector… such as social perception, funding and integrating with the global alternative education movement.

We hope to confidently identify and unpack them so tomorrow we can embark on creating solutions for them together.  You will be given insight into how others are feeling and thinking and find common ground.

Sunday 9.30 – 10.30

Creative Education… it’s a rainbow umbrella… principles and practices

Presenter: Jane Macdonald

  • Understand why the creative process is a natural educator
  • Find out why creative learning generates resources like time, energy and materials, rather than draining them
  • Learn how the creative process develops academic knowledge and skills
  • The principles and practices of creative education

Sunday 10.30 – 12.30

Future vision of our alternative sector?

Do you have a vision of what our alternative sector could look  like in 5, 10, 50 years from now?

Where are we going? What are the global trends and what role are we playing in them? Do we want to stand out or integrate? What might our future look like? How do we want to see it? What legacy do we want to leave behind?

This visioning is designed for us to form an image of the future of Australia’s alternative end creative education sector. You may feel a sense of collective ideology.

Sunday 1.30 – 2.30

Solutions in our alternative sector?

Do you have ideas on how to solve the issues and create the future we see?

How can we work together to solve some of the obstacles in our sector we unpacked yesterday? What lessons have we learnt from our mistakes? What solutions may work and what goals can we generate?

This brainstorm builds upon our discussions and is designed to form a collective strategy for uplifting our sector out of the problems we have and creating the vision we see, together. You may experience unity and empowerment.

Sunday 2.30 – 3.30

Empowering our alternative sector?

Do you have suggestions for strategies to fulfil our collective goal of seeing our alternative sector go above and beyond where we’ve been before?

What work can we begin to do to co-create the vision do we have for our sector? When we break down our goals established in the last session, what steps do we need to take to create them?

This open and democratic discussion is the culmination of our discussions. You may finish the conference with a master-plan, with a feeling of security that you are backed, and a stronger belief than ever that you, we, are a part of  something evolutionary.
